Host a murder mystery theme party

By Hillary Mullen – June 14, 2012

Costume parties are always a hit – folks seem to love dressing up, donning costumes, masks and wigs and playing the role of someone else. Take this concept one step further and host a fantastic murder mystery theme party!

These whodunit shindigs are almost as fun to plan as they are to participate in. First, you should purchase a kit, which comes with character descriptions, scripts and a CD or DVD of instructions to follow along with during the party.

Most kits boast a theme of their own, such as the Wild West, and some even include suggested menus to add to the theme party’s authenticity. Make sure to select music and h’ors doerves that fit with the party’s mood – after all, would Justin Timberlake be crooning in an 1860′s saloon?

Once you have the basics, you can finish planning the theme party! Because each attendee must play a role, finalize the guest list before you send out the formal invitations, as the invites will let them know which character they must come dressed as. It’s up to you to cast your guests, so have fun and get creative.
