Preparation is a host’s best friend

By Hillary Mullen – June 12, 2012

Attending a get-together is a lot of fun – eating, laughing, mingling, it’s a carefree time to relax. Throwing a party, however, can be a stressful affair. Preparation is a key to being able to enjoy your own fete.

As every hostess knows, nothing causes panic at a party like the words, “we’re out of food.” Hiring a caterer can help keep the food supply at an appropriate level. Caterers have experience in party planning, are good at predicting the amount of food needed, and tend to err on the side of caution.

Stocking up on party supplies is another way to avoid a party foul. Buy extra cups, plates, napkins. If plasticware feels too informal for your function, borrow china and flatware from a neighbor. Knowing you have extra supplies on hand will help to ease your mind and enable you to enjoy your fiesta.

Also, let your neighbors know you are throwing a party. Warn them about the extra cars that will be parked on the street, and if you have the space, extend an invite to them! With all your preparations done, a few more guests will be a welcome addition.
