Planning an in home party can be stressful, especially when it is time to decorate the space. Given the amount of details to consider, dressing a room for an affair can quickly cause headaches.
Luckily, designer Michael Aram recently shared a few tips with the Los Angeles Times about creating the perfect dinner party decor.
“When people feel that they’ve been considered, it’s a lovely thing,” he told the news source. “Even though it’s a little formal, I like place cards. And I love individual salt and pepper shakers and a small vase of flowers for each person.”
To make your table memorable, Aram suggests mixing recently-purchased pieces with meaningful collectibles. “I love to see beautiful new things and family heirlooms,” he told the news source. “I never mind things that are scratched or chopped or dented, things that speak of use and history.”
He also encourages hosts to incorporate contrasting items into their floral arrangements, such as mixing small bronze sculptures or fallen tree branches into a bouquet of fresh tulips.
Finally, Aram spoke about one of his biggest dinner party pet peeves. “Paper napkins,” he admitted to the news provider. “I can’t handle that. I’m sorry…Even at home, my partner makes fun of me for always putting out linen napkins.”
