Cost-efficient tips for throwing a child's birthday party

By Hillary Mullen – July 20th 2010

Children’s birthday parties are wonderful ways to celebrate a milestone in your youngster’s life, but the fiestas can become costly. Luckily Baltimore’s ABC 2 compiled a list of tips to throw a celebration on a budget.

Instead of jumping in head first, selecting a theme and stocking up on supplies, a bit of party planning can help keep costs low, especially when shopping for food.

“A birthday party is for the child and their friends, don’t feel that you have to feed mom, dad, aunt and uncle,” industry insider Laura Betz told the news source. Opt for kid friendly fare that hungry adults can nibble on if they desire.

Additionally, avoid throwing the children’s party around mealtime – buying birthday cake and snacks will be cheaper than providing a meal for an entire group of hungry youngsters.

When selecting a venue throw the party in your home, as your house requires no event-related fees. Opt for a color theme over a motif inspired by movie characters or superheros, as the decorations will be more generalized and easier to find.

You can even put the money you save on this budget-friendly birthday party toward a professional entertainer as a special treat. A clown or magician is sure to make any event feel like an epic celebration.
